Every few years, Mazda adds a couple of tasty options and upgrades to the MX-5 Miata to keep its roadster fresh. For 2018, the MX-5 soft top gets new tuning for its rear suspension and electric power steering, plus a red soft top and Recaro seats as options. Nothing game-changer, but potentially welcome improvements for what’s already one of our favorite sports cars.
Those Recaro seats come as part of a $4470 package available for the Miata Club that also includes 17-inch BBS wheels and Brembo brakes. Recaro seats were already available for Miatas sold in other markets and on its platform-mate, the Fiat 124 Spider. If these are the same seats we’ve sampled in the 124 Abarth, they’ll be a great addition to the Miata.
There’s also three new colors available for the Miata soft top—Soul Red Crystal, Machine Gray Metallic, and Snowflake White Pearl Mica. The Miata Grand Touring also gets optional Auburn-colored Napa leather interior.
Mazda says that the chassis and steering upgrades for the 2018 Miata provide an “even more surefooted ride” and help reduce cabin noise. We don’t know exactly what these changes entail, but we’ll find out in due course.
Pricing for the base Miata Sport starts at $25,295, while the Club and Grand Touring cost $29,155 and $30,195, respectively. The 2018 Miata soft tops should arrive at dealers by the end of the month, and they’ll be on sale in January.
