Hyundai Recalls Ioniq Plug-In Hybrids And Ioniq Hybrids

2019 Hyundai Ioniq

Hyundai is recalling over 10,500 model year 2018 Ioniq Plug-In Hybrids and 2017-2018 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrids at risk of fires from the rear seats.

The Main Relay within the Power Relay Assembly may have inadequate connections between its contacts, causing increased electrical resistance.

The rear seats are above the Power Relay Assembly, so overheating assemblies can mean overheated seats, increasing the risk of a fire.

Hyundai performed tests but couldn’t replicate the problem. Engineers focused their investigation on the supplier but the problem still couldn’t be replicated, but additional tests indicated the heat damage was caused by a loose connection in the Power Relay Assembly located under the rear seat.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the Power Relay Assembly for damage.

If no damage is found, the main relay will be replaced. If damage is found, the Power Relay Assembly will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin November 30, 2018.

Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai’s number for this recall is 178.
